What You Can Do to Welcome Your Employees Back After the COVID-19 Outbreak Passes

A new normal will be here eventually. People will start going back to work and trying to adjust to life in a different way. As an employer, you will probably understand what they are going through because you have been right there with them through the events that affected everyone. You can help your employees with the transition to the new normal.

Go Out to Lunch

Most employees, wherever they work, enjoy a lunch out of the office when the boss is paying. With the pandemic going on, money has likely been an issue for a while and will probably continue to be for at least several months. Taking them out to lunch after it passes will show your employees you appreciate them and will take some financial burden off of them, if even for a couple of hours. It might turn out to be a time when everyone lets their guards down and can start to feel almost normal again.

Participate in Outdoor Activities

There are several benefits of doing outdoor activities with your employees. Everyone has been cooped up for much longer than most are used to. It will take a while to realize that it’s okay to have fun being out in the fresh air. You can take a walk or play a team sport. Even sitting out on a blanket or folding chair can help ease everyone back into a life not filled with so much stress. Being a little relaxed will make it easier for people to talk about their feelings and reinforce that they may have felt alone but everyone was going through the same thing.

Be Patient With Them

Going back to work will help a lot, but the events and stress of the last few months will haunt many people forever. Their work may not be up to par. Emotions will still be running high, and tears will probably be fairly commonplace for a while. Adjustments will need to be made for childcare and continued homeschooling. Doctors’ appointments, as well as appointments with counselors, will be part of employees’ days for the foreseeable future. Everyone, including you, will need patience and understanding.

COVID-19 has been an experience like nothing most people alive today have gone through. It will shake us to the core, but it will be possible to get past it. You and your employees will be glad to get back to work. It will be one way that you will be able to feel useful again. By doing things like those suggested above, you’ll be able to welcome your employees back and give them some sense of normalcy.
